Uniqua Smith: Week 1 Analysis:

I decided to do a reenactment of Grey's Anatomy, where Izzie and O'Malley's lives are on the line. Grey's Anatomy for so long was a show that showed me how hard lives can be. It's so dramatic and always has me on my toes, but definitely reminds me of why spending time with my loved ones is so important. People just die in that show. They show no mercy. A sort of dramatically worded poem is the only justice I felt that I could do for Grey's Anatomy. This was not the time to pass up a dramatic moment.
I decided to make subtle changes to the time. So the setting is in the 1960s where women weren't becoming doctor's and surgeons, whereas in the show all of the friends in the show are surgeons. (Spoiler Alert) O'Malley dies and Izzie lives but I wanted to change that to show that Izzie's goal was to save people's lives. Although organ donation had just begun and she was very close to being a doctor which wasn't very heard of at the time, she was able to save lives.
I honestly switched the roles before I decided to change the time setting. I had to make sure I knew when defibrillators were created and when women started to become prominent in the medical industry, which wasn't really until the 1970s. The time period allowed me to keep it modern because it wasn't so long ago, but I was still able to notice the differences from the 1960s to our time.
This assignment made me realize how hard it is to judge the show that we watched in class, because it's hard to turn someone else's masterpiece into your own. Shonda Rhimes is amazing in what she creates and does, so to change her idea and rewrite her story was a little daunting, but I loved the challenge.
