James Cavallaro: Week 1 Response

LewRockwell is a blog that I read from time to time when I’m browsing through social media. When first looking at the headline to the website you see right off the bat that most of the topics found on the website are Anti-State, Anti-War, Pro-market. Essentially the website discusses topics and current issues without all the political sides of many news channels and websites. In many cases a lot gets left out on current issues being discusses on big named media sites and shows because of the station or companies sponsoring and supporting that network have a certain political party they are in support of. The LewRockwell website also shines light on less serious topics but many that may spark interest of any aged reader. The time period that I chose to create headlines for was the year of 1963; the same year JFK was shot and MLK Jr gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. I find great interest in reading topics and stories of conspiracy and the information they keep hidden from the public. Unlike today in the year of 1963 there was no social media and way to process and view information as quickly as we do today. What ever was realized in magazines, newspapers, and television was the only information people were given to make sense of. So one can easily see how views can become quickly one sided. What we believe is constantly being changed and shaped by our values and views on the world, and most of what we want to believe is true or false is based off of how we were raised and what each of us has experienced. Today many people are to quick to accept what’s being presented to them base on what others are saying and doing in sheer fear of standing out or going against the majority on very important and personal issues. My target audience for this writing assignment was middle aged Americans in the United States in the 1960s, Specifically the working class American that would be effected by the assassination of JFK and the commotion caused by the delivered speech in our nations capital. Also a lot of what happened in the United Stated regarding racism is still a very relevant and current topic in today’s society as the media is flooded with hashtags of Black lives matter, and many professional athletes not standing for the national anthems during sporting events. For those who haven’t read articles from the website I highly recommend it, for it can maybe change the way you look and discuss current issues with others.
