What is your name?

“Aap ke naam kya hain?”, "Was ist dein naama?  "

Are these correct?  Do I remember my english, my hindi my german?

Am i being polite, or am I being a rude little numbskull…. or am I just confused.   I don’t really know.  I really don’t know.

I was born learning english, then hindi from my mother, then german at my school….

I try to convey my meaning through my words as well as I can, but how can I do that when I don’t remember my spelling, my grammar, punctuation and TONE…. 

I say “Hey there, I am looking to go to the zoo and watch the animals”, excitedly to my friend and my sister.  

I try the same in Hindi and all I can get out is “Aap manta ZOO jayee?”  That has maybe half the strength that my english has…. and this is a weakness…. my first language always engulfs the other two….

I try to muster the German…. “Kommen Sie in Zoo?….. Wie sagt man ZOO und ANIMALS auf Deutsch…. ich weiss nicht”   Basically me stressing in German that I do in fact have no idea how to say some of these words….

But yup, that is how it goes…. maybe I’ll get better if I put my mind to it one day and keep at it…. kind of like sport, like lifting weights, like running, like math…. MAYBE… 

My mom would love it, I could talk to my grandma better in Hindi, I could communicate with my uncle in German…. It would be USEFUL….. VERY..

But maybe that solid period has passed in time where I could just speak in these languages like I so easily do in English.

And so I shall when I get that time….
