Moises Urena: Week 1 Analysis

Moises Urena: Week 1 Analysis

The theme I’m responding to is the theme of being different from others and having to deal with it with a minority group of people. In this case the only person Elliot feels comfortable with and can understand him is the dead father he’s created in his head. There are not many people who can relate to what he is going through. He has somewhat created a world where only him and his dead dad can access. The imaginary father he has created is the only one that can truly understand what he’s going through. He’s not sure where he begins and ends when it comes to who is coming up with the ideas in his head. It could be him and or his dad.
I decided to write a transcript for a show because it was the best way I could really show the interaction between Elliot and Edward. The dialogue between them was meant to show the inner conflict Elliot has with himself. Even though he’s the one that came up with the whole plan, he ends up being the small voice in his head that isn’t too confident. Darlene, Elliot’s sister, would like to help but she has trouble getting through to Elliot. They both would like to relate to each other but can’t

Writing a transcript allowed me to show interaction with dialogue between people. I had difficulty trying to give a sense of what was going on. I wanted to describe the room but leave enough of it a mystery for the reader to fill in the blanks with imagination. I learned that to express your self could be awkward but to express your self, as a minority of minorities must feel tremendously harder. It’s hard for a majority to really understand when you try to express yourself because they can only view things from a majority view.
