1. What themes or concerns in the presented reading are your responding to?
I am specifically responding to the theme of the GEICO ads, in particular the image of a pirate being accosted by his crew because his parrot decides to repeat what he said about hiding the booty from the crew because they are all idiots. Basically, the commercial suggests the captain is going to be suffering a most probable slow, painful death but they keep the humor in it, which is crazy in my opinion.
2/3. Why these materials and processes. What are their limitations? What do they allow?
I used the internet, specifically google images and my computer, because I it allows me to do ALOT, and in this case I chose to stick to a basic written post with a nice image to accompany it. The limitations are that I cannot literally paint my own object without tapping into other programs, but theoretically I could if I opened more applications. All in all, the limitations of a computer are very few, but there are many for ME on a computer because I only know how to use so much and have so many things downloaded.
4. What choices did you make? (For example, the tone of a piece of writing, or the lighting decisions for a photograph.) What led your decision-making about them?
I used a lot of emphasis. I personally like emphasis, especially large capital letters in my writing because it draws the author to specifics in an easy way. The words I emphasized are words that drew feeling within me when I read them, such as STUPID and words like SCREWED. They are almost acidic to my ear when I read them and really show how bad the pirate's situation is. The tone is definitely slightly sardonic, imposing a bit of dark humor into the work as well. My decision making was led by my hatred but love for the commercial and mixing two differing feelings which ended up on paper as DEATH and HUMOR, two VERY, EXTREMELY different things.
5. What did you learn through this response? (You can address new knowledge or new questions you’ve gained regarding the class reading, the materials/processes you used, or both.)
Through this response I learned that theres a lot more to a picture then you originally see, and honestly I have never really done an assignment like this so it really shouts "a picture is worth 1000 words". I also learned the simple task of getting pictures from online and putting these into the blog post. Regarding the readings we had, I can say the Bryant Unexplained was similar to my post in terms of dark humor. An example is the description of a black man dressing up like a white actress and the SERIOUS implications of the matter with the racism and problems of society but also with the funny aspects of the man basically taunting the actress.
