I chose the movie "Dope" because it tackles inter-sectional issues that people of color, specifically black people of color, in society right now face. Based on how they are portrayed in the media, it shows a lot about the limits set upon what roles Black people get to play in movies, or any entertainment mediums in mainstream media.
I chose to expose the dichotomy set upon the white dominant group and the people of color group. I tried to relate it to the systematic oppression set up for all people of color, or any non-conformists.
For example, the idea that the educational system for people of color is something that we all have to work harder for since the rest of the world is against our progress, and how the white dominant groups get to do it for fun and for nothing but goodness.
The same concept goes to how even when the toughest times hit, it is important to put some respect on women's names, specially the Black women's names.
United with our people, we are stronger. United with our people, we can aim higher. Together, we will be unstoppable.
Maybe one day they will get to realize that the systems they had set up for us can be applied to them too. We are all swimming in the same ocean. We are all coexisting with each other, no hesitation. This is all our world and seeing eye to eye would not hurt anybody.
