Temi Omogunloye Week 5 Response & Analysis
Response
Analysis
1. What themes or concerns in the presented reading are your responding to?
- I am responding to this week's assignment, which was to create a collage.
2. What are the materials and processes you used to formulate your response? Why these? If several, which are you most concerned with?
- I was initially inspired by this week's readings about Art and its ability to create a raw experience. The problem with raw experiences is sometimes the person gets lost trying to experience something he or she thinks the author wants them to experience, so instead, I put my message, the thing I want you to experience, in your face.
- The limitation is the audience is treated like a child, having to deal with what I want directly. Yet at the same time, it allows time to pass, bypasses the whole "is this what the author wanted?" or "am I getting this right?".
4. What choices did you make? (For example, the tone of a piece of writing, or the lighting decisions for photograph.) What led your decision-making about them?
- I chose music I thought would inspire. I picked pictures I thought would tug at the heart of any human,. I think I set the right time but I wasn't able to customize it that specifically. And finally I put cue words and phrases, (I.E. Smile, what does....).
5. What did you learn through this response? (You can address new knowledge or new questions you’ve gained regarding the class reading, the materials/processes you used, or both.)
- I learned that I smile nearly too much but my smile is not rooted in all things good.
p.s. Sorry this is late, internet pls :-(
Olivia Clifford: Week 5 Analysis
What themes or concerns in the presented reading are you responding to?
I am responding to the prompt to make a video collage.
The theme I was going for in my video was to slow down and appreciate life.
What are the materials and processes you used to formulate your response? Why these? If several, which are you most concerned with?
I used iMovie, Photoshop, and YouTube. I used Photoshop to edit the photos in the video. I used iMovie to piece the video together. Finally, I used YouTube to showcase the video.
I was most concerned with iMovie mostly because I had never used it before.
Why these materials and processes. What are their limitations? What do they allow?
These materials were definitely the best things I could use to create my video. iMovie allowed me to put together a video in a smoother manner as compared to something like Microsoft Movie Maker (which I personally really do not like to use). Photoshop also allowed me to change the photos from their vibrant colors to black and white.
The limitation I faced definitely was my knowledge of how to use these programs (or lack there of). I only used Photoshop a few times and when I did use it, none of my photos were ever edited to look like masterpieces considering I didn't even know what to click on. This attempt worked out better, except when I ran into a few problems of the program not opening certain photos and had to call in my sister for help (since it was her Mac that I was using; I'm a PC gal). She then showed me that the Mac has a built in photo editor that was much simpler to use, especially since all I was doing was making the photos black and white.
This was my first time using iMovie. It was intimidating, considering all I had ever used in the past was Microsoft Movie Maker and this was way more complicated than that. I played around with it and figured out that it wasn't as difficult as I thought it was going to be.
What choices did you make? (For example, the tone of a piece of writing, or the lighting decisions for a photograph.) What led your decision-making about them?
The first decision I had made was to incorporate only candid photos in my video. The theme I was focusing on to slow down and appreciate all that life has to offer. Candid photos capture what other photos do not: raw, pure emotions. The photographer was not telling the subject of the photo how to feel. Instead, they saw how the subject was feeling and snapped a photo. These photos are from the moments in life that we don't realize are being captured. In my video, the photos show how the subject(s) is truly enjoying their life.
The next decision I made was to make the photos black and white. I did this mostly to make all the photos flow well together in the video. Some pictures were taken on professional cameras while others were just on a camera phone. I wanted to make them all match despite the quality.
I also chose the song Vienna by Billy Joel for the video. I only used the first verse because the song is a little over 3 minutes long and I didn't want my video to be that long. This song talks about not going through life too fast, which I felt went well with my theme. At first, I had wanted to recite a poem as the background sound of the video, but I couldn't find a poem that I felt captured the vision I had for the video. I asked my sister to help me pick a song instead (she listens to much more music than I do) and she suggested this one.
I was very precise with how long each photo was shown in the video. I wanted it to match the song because I know that I get annoyed when photo changes don't match the song when watching a slide show. So each photo is not shown for the same length of time, but instead matches the flow of the music.
I was also very particular about picking the order of the photos. I tried to make it correlate with the lyrics. For example, when Billy Joel sings "slow down you crazy child" the picture that is being show is one of a person running.
I also made sure to have the music fade out at the end because I personally don't like when a song ends abruptly in a video. This took me a long time to figure out how to do but I eventually got it.
What did you learn through this response? (You can address new knowledge or new questions you've gained regarding the class reading, the materials/processes you used, or both).
This response taught me A LOT about iMovie. As I said before, it was my first time using the program but I learned so much just making a short 1-minute video. I also learned more about how to work a Mac. These skills will definitely help me when making my final video project.

Ryan Smith Week 5 Analysis
I am responding to photo collage presented in the reading on Romare Bearden
I used the photographs I have taken over the last two years and combined it with an acoustic version of Everlong
I chose these photos because they all represent the natural world, looking at these photos, along with taking them give me a sense of comfort and relaxation. The acoustic version of Everlong provides a soothing sound for me being it is one of my favorite songs and represents my appreciation of nature.
All of the photos generally are lively and colorful pictures that do their best to represent the beauty and diversity of nature.
I've learned the about the power of simplicity and the true quality it possess to appreciate a work of art that requires no complexity at all.

Patricia Cortado: Week 5 Analysis
Life > Moving Forward > Sincerely > Honesty > Different > Face Self.
Life has progress that is not linear. Its unpredictability lives through the unexpected moves it creates. Through this video, a series of emotions are portrayed. As the poem flow, it gets more and more intense (just a spectacle of what my emotions go through on the daily). Driven by a factor and the world around me, I unleash different sides of me.
I am full of life and everything above and beyond it. Through this film, I exert some type of clue on what my thought process and perspectives are in life.
